My roomate always uses hair spray and nail polish in our room and I'm pregnant, is that ok?

So for right now, while I finish attending university in a different city than my husband, I'm living on campus in a dorm and I'm pregnant. The dorm is just one room with two beds and two sinks. My roomate uses hair spray and nail polish just about every day and doesn't ventilate the room. Is it ok for me to be around that kind of thing? Sometimes I notice it when it's too late (i.e. I've already breathed it in for a long time); obviously after I realize I fan myself with a paper, but what about before then?

I would make sure the room is ventilated.... the fumes dont seem to be a good thing to be inhaling ...for anyone...I would just nicely ask her to let you know when she would be using these things so u can ventilate the room or step out...

no...well I've heard it isnt. not as bad for you as it is for your baby. Fumes and all that causes more damage than you might think...tell that ***** to be more considerate and open a window!! lol

No, you need to ventilate the room that is very dangerous.

Its not healthy for anyone to be excessively exposed to fumes like that. Its not the worst thing though.

In pregnancy , its not really the fumes that are your enemy its the actual chemicals.

If you were to paint your nails, or spray your own hair, the chemicals can be absorbed into your bloodstream and can cross the placenta.

same thing goes for hair color, perms, relaxers.....anything that you put in your body or ON your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream and is passed on to your baby.

But back to the hair spray and stuff , I would open a window, and definately try talking to her, and expressing that you feel that the fumes are bothering you. I am sure she will be more than happy given your condition to cut back , and she may even open the window herself, as she was unaware that it was an issue.

Hope this helps you out ! Good luck.
